In a heartfelt appeal that connects infrastructure to daily life, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the vital role road networks play in uplifting communities—especially in rural and underserved parts of the FCT.

During an inspection tour on Friday, May 16, 2025, across Gwagwalada and Kwali Area Councils, Wike emphasized that roads are not just concrete paths, but a bridge to better education, healthcare, agricultural growth, and community safety.

“When there are no roads, which school will you go to? Which hospital will you go to? Even for agriculture, how do you move produce without roads?” he asked, highlighting the practical needs of rural Nigerians.

Projects Driving Progress in Rural Abuja

The Minister visited two major ongoing road construction projects:

  • 10-kilometer Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in Gwagwalada
  • 15-kilometer A2–Pai Road connecting the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway to Pai community in Kwali

Wike underscored how these strategic roads will open up satellite towns, giving local farmers a smoother route to urban markets while improving access to schools and clinics for residents. He also noted that well-lit roads, such as the ones under construction, serve as natural deterrents to crime.

“You see a road with streetlights, and you have to think twice before committing any offence,” he added, stressing the link between infrastructure and community safety.

Renewed Hope Resonates with the People

The Minister expressed gratitude for the warm reception from residents in both Gwagwalada and Kwali, noting that their visible excitement is proof that the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda is making a real impact.

“When the people are happy, it shows we’re on the right path. The joy on their faces, the market women shouting ‘Renewed Hope is working’—this is the energy we need to keep delivering,” he said.

He commended contractors for maintaining quality standards, especially on the A2–Pai Road, and reiterated the FCT Administration’s resolve to fulfill all its promises under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.

“There’s no magic to development. It’s about having the right leadership. Mr. President has provided that, and the rest of us are following the vision to deliver results,” he affirmed.

Expanding Impact Beyond Roads

Wike also revealed that over 60 public schools have been renovated and equipped across the FCT—a signal of the administration’s broader development strategy which focuses not just on roads, but also on education, healthcare, and social infrastructure.

“No sector will be left behind. We are working across the board,” he assured.

Countdown to President Tinubu’s 2nd Anniversary

The road inspections form part of the preparation ahead of the second anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration. Many of these projects are being lined up for commissioning to mark the milestone and showcase ongoing transformation in the nation’s capital.
